Magic Info

Magic, as it is understood at modern religious organisations has less or nothing in common to the "witch schools" which are currently well known to the public by cinema or fantasy books.
It is more a collection of the natural psychic gifts of every being which too often cannot be explained by scientific means alone. Thus, our deal with magic more is kind of development of one's own personality. Of course the Self of every being can't be seperated from environment surrounding it. By this, magic study at the Ursa Major Iseum isn't just an excercise in 'watching the own belly'. Magic is exchange, a Give and Take; it helps us to understand we're a part of the Great Whole "Earth".

This is reason why a serious engagement in magic generally is searched by women and men of a certain maturity who know where they want to go. The mean age of students at the Ursa Major Iseum is, very roughly, 30 years. The quota of male students totally is about 15%.
Respect for all living beings and confessional tolerance are obligatory. Excercises are convenient for pagans, christians or buddhists (just to specify some) the same way.
Higher forms of magic are taught relatively late towards the end of the studies if via the Mirror of the Soul one's own weaknesses and deficiencies have become known.

F.O.I. members who want to study for priesthood get an introduction to basic meditation techniques and work with elementary spirits. Following this, some basic divination is taught. (These basics are in slightly changed form also available to nonmembers as external courses outside the Iseum).
Main part of the education is about ritual techniques and visual magic. Study of the F.O.I. liturgy is an obligatory homework in this phase. Contact to the Divine Beings is not taught; it is an essential assumption to begin studies.
Members who ask for also can recieve initiations on the "Spiral of the Adepti" during the education and become an Adept.

According to the "year and day" policy of the F.O.I. the new priest / the new priestess recieves his/her ordination certificate when one year and one day after the ordination rite has passed.
